The Experts in International School recruitment

How to choose the right international school

The numbers of international schools are increasing year by year. In some places such as The Middle East and China this increase has been staggering.

All the signs are that this growth will continue to pick up pace. This is good for teachers looking for new jobs but this increase in choice can have pitfalls. It is now more important than ever to choose the right school.

Schools may have a great website, fantastic facilities and good salaries but they may not offer very much in terms of professional development. This could make it hard to gain promotion when you move on.

All international schools offer different salary packages and contracts. You have to be careful that the school can offer a package to suit your needs. Do not be afraid to ask questions about health cover, flights, pensions and school places for your children.

Accommodation is becoming an important issue in some places. In many parts of the Middle East, for example, teachers are asked to share accommodation, and families can be housed in inappropriate spaces.

Local knowledge is obviously important. How much is the cost of living? What is the heathcare like? Will we need a car? Is there a good social scene? Can I afford to travel, or join a gym? These are important questions and the answers could have far-reaching implications on your quality of life.

If you work with us we will help you check your contract and make sure that the school can offer everything you need. In general we will do our best to find out what you are looking for and try to match your needs with our vacancies.
